Weedhack 2015
Cheers one & miq, and good luck.. So growing stuff, and criminality... Hmmm... Weedhack?? Yep..

Firsts
This is going to be my first speedhack using Allegro 5, so I can't rely much on previously written code.
I'm building up everything from scratch and haven't got much more than a simple engine at the moment.

Sidelined
I woke up, read the rules, played a bit of Nintendoland with my son and then...was benched by a migraine. :(
I hopped in bed and spent the next few vital hours trying to stave it off. Finally, after much time lost that I had intended to use designing/coding, I awoke, but had to run and get some lab work done.
Not how I envisioned today going, but exactly how I should have anticipated it. No matter, my spirits are up and I officially begin my speedhack ...

Just got time to get down to work
My initial basic idea is farming crops and writing your own almanac that decides the weather for the year. Perhaps rain and noisy aliens will be involved. We shall see.

starting slow
The screenshot may not look like it, but in the first 10 hours of the competition I implemented a 2d platform engine. The red circle is the player, who can run and jump and collide with the brown walls.
I also got a haircut, went to Tim Hortons, cooked lunch, went clothes shopping with my fiancee... the times where I could get 72 hours to concentrate on just my speedhack entry are long gone :(
My game idea is, you are a teacher who must get all the children ...

Let the coding begin!
I spent 4 hours coming up with a terrible idea, and now I will try to code it up in the remaining time! I'm also livestreaming it, for everybody's amusement: twitch.tv/siegelordex.

Finally here
I made it to the registration, thanks to Matthew.
I already have an idea, and basically you'll be falling.
I hope I kept it simple enough to finish my entry !
Good luck to all !!

FP
I wasn't even sure if I would have time this weekend, but it looks like I'll have a bit of time at least, enough for a half-baked entry.
I'll be working with Max again as usual.
Finished work, got groceries, had dinner, had time to let the rules sink in. They're not bad, I've got some ideas. Going to have a chat with Max to see what we can do.

I have a 'bit' of an idea
This is where my megalomaniac, narcissistic delusions of fame become a problem, because I would like to say 'See what I did there?' but you won't until I've made my game (perhaps not even then depending on how the design evolves) and it's not as if anyone will actually go back through my blog posts at that time.

Quest for a name
Miquel of Fire has decided on a game to work on. However the name of the game is a bit of an issue.
He has decided to eat lunch for a bit, and will return later to flesh out the ideas of the game.

The quest for a game idea
Miquel of Fire wakes up, and eats breakfast. The contest had started by the time he finish, so he read them. The rules puzzled him greatly as he could not think of anything. After starting up his computer and the stream on the Twtch, all the while trying to think up something, he added a random number generator to his code base, as his last entry had issues with it.
And thus the quest for some idea to work with has begun. Will this be the end? Find out next time. ...

Fun and games..
Lets make a game in 72 Hours.. Ok.. Just putting together a new project now. Don't know how many rules I am going to follow. I don't know what I am doing so should be interesting. I hope there is a participation award.. At least I have beer.

Will be streaming
==Story mode break==
I'll be streaming at http://www.twitch.tv/miquelfire when I'm coding. As of now, I'm still trying to figure out a game for these rules. Having a hard time being creative. And my god, a rule I created was picked.

The Rule-O-Matic has Spoken
The Rule-O-Matic has been given a final spin, and the rules will magically appear at the start of the competition.
As always, take time to reflect on the rules before proclaiming them to be impossible. Use them for inspiration, or make a mockery of them. It's just for fun!
May the best hack win.

Alien
I bumbled through setting up allegro 5 to be used with Xcode on Mac OSX. It's been five years since I've touched allegro at all and this is the first time I've seen allegro 5. Furthermore, I've never built an Allegro application on a Mac environment. Further furthermore, I've been coding in Objective-C for the past five years. Finally furthermore, I've moved into a different role at work and have only been coding 1-6 hours a week for the past 2-ish years. ...

Environment is ready
And so, the Miquel of Fire had decided to embarked on a journey of creating game in a short 72 hour time span. Two nights before he would receive the rules he would need to follow, he did some prep work in the form of making sure his compiler setup of MSVC2013 works. After a few checks with the unstable Allegro 5.1.11 release, he got to a state where he deemed it good enough.
As he was getting ready for bed, he remembered some more prep work he wanted to get done, ...
