Best Game Ideas

This Rule-O-Matic asked that the speedhackers create a game based on survival and dichotomy. To no big surprise, the games that scored the best overall had a solid idea behind them.

  1. Starship Survivor

    By Jakub Wasilewski

    Game Background

screenshot It's the space age, and you're set for the Outpost when a terrible miscalculation occurs. You end up a half galaxy off target, completely on your own. If you want to survive, you're going to have to visit other planets and make wise decisions on how to use your precious resources. If you're lucky, you might just be able to survive long enough to recharge your hyperdrive.

    Our Take

If you want to set your game apart from forty other survival games, slap the word "survival" itself in the title! The name doesn't lie—this game is all about surviving. It will test your frustration early and often. You have to keep your eye out on your resources, because as soon as one of them runs out... you're dead.

  2. Bunker Master

    By Rodrigo Braz Monteiro

    Game Background

screenshot You're on the battlefield with nowhere to go but straight ahead into the opposing army. Chances of survival are slim. If you want to make it, be sure to bring along the big guns—and as much help as you can muster. Your goal is to keep advancing by capturing the next enemy base before the time runs out.

    Our Take

There's no end in sight. The enemy keeps coming, and coming, and coming. That doesn't mean you cannot have a bit of fun while it lasts. There's plenty of action here, and while it takes quite a bit of lead to kill you, there's plenty around to do it. The game really gets fun when you can pick up a flamethrower and just do it all yourself. Even then, it's hard to toast dozens of people without getting hit yourself.

  3. Dark Light Battles

    By Richard Phipps

    Game Background

screenshot Dark vs Light—pick a side and go after the other. You have soldiers, knights, archers, and mages at your command, but use them wisely. Each play a different role in securing your victory. The faster you can advance and take over castles, the larger your army can get. Strike down your foes to survive!

    Our Take

It's the battle of Dark vs Light in the struggle for survival. While far from an original idea, it's implemented well, and its completeness sets it apart from the others. You'll need a mix of both strategy and luck to survive against your opponent.

Honorable mention: Desert of Doom, Ibiza 2: How it All Began, AntiMeteors, Allefant 4, Nutty Nuts, Desert of Doom, Rebels and Lords
