Best Technical
Part of the SpeedHack challenge is to comply with some arbitrary technical rules. This year was no different, as the speedhackers had to either make a low resolution / color game or limit themselves to a a four button joystick for controls. Also, making use of randomness was a required rule.

Bunker Master
By Rodrigo Braz Monteiro
Game Background
Our Take
You're on the battlefield with nowhere to go but straight
ahead into the opposing army. Chances of survival are
slim. If you want to make it, be sure to bring along
the big guns—and as much help as you can muster.
Your goal is to keep advancing by capturing the
next enemy base before the time runs out.
The game so impressed the fellow speedhackers that despite opting out of the restrictive low resolution and color rules, it still takes first place. The game controls are pretty nice, despite being limited to two action buttons. Also, most everything about the game is random, including the terrain.

Peacefighter

Game Background
Our Take
There can be no peace until you are the only
person who survives. Go underground in the tunnels
and destroy all that moves. To help you defeat
your foes, various special items are scattered
about. The other people are out to get you too, so watch
your back!
This might have been the most impressive of the low resolution games, as it was able to make use of a single hue palette to create nice visuals. The levels are randomly generated, as is just about everything in the game.

Fire Starter

Game Background
Our Take
What goes up must come down. It's time to be a trouble
maker and apply that to your city. Score big points by burning
the whole thing down. But don't think you're going to be
allowed to just set fire at your own leisure. The police
are out to get you, and the fire fighters are at hand
quenching the flames.
This was another entry with both low resolution and a single hue palette. Despite the limitations, the graphics are quite nice. It also features a randomly generated city for you to go around and destroy.
