Best Use of Multi-Player Mode

Each game was required to implement some sort of multiple player mode. There were no restrictions on how it was implemented; hot seat, split screen and networking were all used.

  1. Rambanana

By Victor Williams Stafusa da Silva, André Luiz Pereira Álvares, and Luiz Fernando Alves dos Santos

    Game Background

screenshot It's time for all you Rambananas to enter the arena and join the deathmatch. Armed with a variety of weapons, it's your goal to take out the others before they get you. If you take too long, monkey Macacone might try to take a bite of you. You also have to worry about turning black and rotting, so you better pay attention!

    Our Take

Obviously, the game makes good utilization of multiple players, as each banana fends for himself in a four-way split screen deathmatch. Unfortunately, there's no networking, so you'll all have to huddle together around a single computer.

  2. Bananza

    By Ben Davis

    Game Background

screenshot Four players compete against each other (via the Internet), trying to claim territory for themselves by laying down pipes. If you trap a banana in your territory, you'll get a random bonus item that you can later try to strategically use. As the game goes on, others will reclaim your territory, so you'll have to keep winning it back if you want to be victorious.

    Our Take

It's always ambitious to try to implement networking into a Speedhack game, but it was pulled off successfully here. Gameplay is a bit laggy and it can be a challenge to find three people to play against, but it's always more fun to play against live opponents than against the computer.

  3. Banana Rope

    By Michael Faerber

    Game Background

screenshot This is a rather unique game that involves creating platforms for a banana to swing on. One player controls the banana while the other builds platforms. The ultimate goal is to collect all the points that are in the playing field.

    Our Take

The game is rather frustrating to learn how to control, but once you get the hang of it (no pun intended), it's not that bad. While the game is technically multiplayer, it can easily be controlled by one player.

Honorable mention: Bob 'n Rob, Fruit of the Loomsoft, Lobotomy, Spiked Fruits
