THE GREAT DECKCHAIR HELICOPTER ESCAPE:

Story:

It has taken you many months of sneaking around the P.O.W camp you were imprisoned in, but you have managed to construct a crude helicopter out of the following stolen or collected items:

* A Seargent's deckchair.
* A discarded bicycle (for the pedals to power the thing).
* Loads of plastic cutlery (To construct the propeller).
* A standard Video Game class Exemption from the Laws of Physics (ELP, a curious legal document pioneered by Lord ELPus).

Now all that's left is to fly to safety, over field, deserts, oceans, war-torn wastelands and finally your home city, where the battle rages the strongest.

Instructions:

You start in the middle of the screen, and ships from both air-forces fly in from opposite side, trying to collide with each other. Neither can detect your small helicopter, so you must avoid crashing with each and every one of them. Last long enough to clear the area and you will be taken on to the next leg of your journy.

Controls:

<^> (Arrows):	Pedal helicopter in that direction.
Esc: Quit game.
Enter: Advance through title and ending screens.

Compiling:

Just run "make.bat". Unfortunately, I don't know how to write a real makefile yet, so this will have to do for now. It should work for all versions of Allegro, but I've only tested it on DJGPP/DOS.

Rules:

Survival: The aim of the game is to survive the attacks of several waves of ships. The player cannot shoot, and must rely on fancy flying to avoid the other craft.

Make it a Classic: The game runs at 320x200 and uses 16 colour only (counting 0 and 16 as the same colour, black). The maps and title screen change the palette, but the rest of the game uses the standard EGA palette. The game also uses only arrows and two miscellanious keys.

Dichotomy: Ships from opposite air-forces enter from opposite sides of the screen. The sky-and-ground background shows two opposite planes of colour. The craft deals with forces in opposite directions (Thrust up, gravity down).

World map: A map provides an indicator of the player's progression through the game.

Act of IP: Not used.

Special Note:

If you wish to see the progression of levels and the ending easily, add "#define CHEAT" to the start of "game.c" and recompile. This will disable your controls after you are hit or press escape, but will take you to the next stage anyway.
